In an interview with Dane101 Mark Gilbert, the London Bureau Chief for Bloomberg News, talked about the Move Your Money campaign:
- You know one reason the [new] book is called
Complicit is because I think everyone had a part to play in that and that includes me and you. If you choose to put your money into an institution or a money market fund that is offering slightly higher return than the one next door you have to ask yourself, “Do I have enough appetite for risk?” That’s how you’re getting those higher returns. I think personal behavior has a big part to play in how we treat finance in the future and I think the idea that you choose carefully which institutions you do business with – do its values reflect your values, do you think ethically that it’s behaving in a proper way; do you think it’s looking after your money? I think that’s a very strong and powerful force and I think could be a positive change for good.
As long as people start to think about where their money is and who they do business with then you can, on an individual business, start to affect the behavior of the finance industry in more positive ways. I think it’s a great thing.
